The season of 2013 in all wine-growing regions of Argentina ended successfully – weather problems were not observed. Winemakers have harvested in accordance with the plan. Mild spring and a cool summer contributed to the gradual maturation of the berries.
Winemaker Ricardo Hedoro (Dolium) called the harvest of 2013 year “phenomenal”. His colleague, Leonardo Eras (Alto Las Hormigas), said: “This year looks promising, especially for the UCO valley. We have achieved a more balanced maturity. The grapes natural acidity and lower potential alcohol level”.
However, winemakers are faced with economic problems in the country. The inflation rate of Argentina is 35% and tends to increase, the national currency is uncompetitive. Besides, the duty of the wine industry to the government is 20 million USD.
As for Chilean wine, the state of the economy and the political situation more stable. But there were some problems with the weather. Due to the fact that the weather was warm enough, the harvest was delayed, and aging was held unevenly. Rainy spring has occurred in the Central regions of the country. In the regions of Colchagua, Cachapoal, Maule and Maipo, the air temperature rose to an average level later. But, because of this, the crop is estimated as good. In Casablanca and its district, the summer was abnormally cold, therefore, the harvest was delayed by almost a month.
