A few bars and restaurants of Auckland, New Zealand, began offering wine supplied in kegs.
Kegs – metal vessel, usually made of steel or aluminum, frequently used for the storage and transportation of beer and any other alcoholic and soft drinks under pressure. Wine in kegs has already won the markets in Australia, Canada and the USA, and all because the packaging helps significantly reduce the price of the glass for the visitor. However, this is not the only plus.
Byron Henry (Henry Byron), a restaurant owner in Oakland, recently signed a contract to supply Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc in kegs. He notes: “the Fact that the wine is stored in steel tanks does not affect its quality or flavor. It’s just another format”.
Henry gives a simple example. Wine from bottles costs the visitor $ 14 per glass, while the use of kegs to reduce the price to 7-7,5 dollars per glass. Of course, someone thinks this sort of optimization is “suspicious”. Some even expressed fears that the wine of such containers may not be high quality by definition. Something similar was observed in 70-80 years of the twentieth, when this format is gaining momentum in the West. Then, the producers of quality wines expressed support for this format. Since then, it took a lot of time and manufacturers of keg is not sitting idly by – they modified the design of the keg, looking for new materials to proizodstva.
CIS kegs are often used to store beer, but some of the pioneers have already begun to offer their customers to deliver in this format and wine. However, as shown by the experience of the implementation of the packaging in the 80 years of the twentieth: the growing popularity of wine in kegs still relies on quality content, rather than on the characteristics of the containers.
