In 2013 in Tokyo brought together sommeliers from 54 countries to participate in global competition. The best sommelier of the world was recognized as 47-year-old Paolo basso. In order to participate in the world contest of sommeliers, participants are selected in groups, which, in turn, divided into continents. The competition is held every three years. After the first elimination round, all participants gather together to continue the fight for the victory. Competitions lasted for three days. Participants perform tasks such as blind wine tasting; test, consisting of dozens of unusual questions on wine technology, grape varieties, etc.; and finally, the organizers put a difficult task for the finalists – each participant must pick up customer capricious wine to the chosen dish for foreign participants language.
