Luca Maroni, the man who had tried more than 123,000 wine

In this header there are no errors. Luca Maroni is a leading Italian taster and sommelier, has built a storied career and, in the period from 1989 to 2008, ate some of the best wines of the world.

Born in Rome and received a degree in business and Economics in 1986, Luke joins Luigi Veronelli and begins to write for the magazine “L Etichetta”. It also opens the “Ex Vinis”, the first Italian newspaper dedicated to wine.

Later, in 1990, Luke opens publicists company Lm, which gives life to the magazine “The Taster of Wine”, dedicated to wine and tasters.

Following the same course, in 1993, he released the first edition of the “Annuario dei Vini Italiani”, the specialized review of oenological research within the major Italian wine companies.

In 1994, Luke is completing his 5-year study to identify links between the chemical-physical components of the wine and its sensory functions and he manages to derive a formula chemical structure the quality of wine. According to her the three main sensory parameter that determine the pleasantness of the wine is: consistency, balance and integrity. Consistency is an ensemble of different substances that make up the wine. The wine has a good texture when its rich taste, aroma and colour combined in a thick, viscous body.

Wine is considered balanced when the softness of its taste is equal to the sum of its acidity and potential bitterness. And finally, the taste of wine is holistic only when it is fully consistent with the fruit of the drink.

Next year, Maroni publishes the “Degustare il Vino” (wine Tasting) – theoretical and practical Handbook on tasting all types of wines. Moreover, in 1995, he writes a note about the “wine Tasting” for the Italian encyclopedia Treccani. He will update this note in 2000, after conducting additional research.

In 1996, 30 issue of the journal “The Taster of Wine”, Luke reveals to readers the philosophy of fruity wines and also offers a methodology to assess their quality. In the same year he published the first edition of “Guida dei Vini Italiani” (Guide to Italian wines); this edition is destined to turn into an annual event. This year launched the career of Luke Maroni as a speaker. In his speeches and lectures he introduced the privileged players of the wine sector with their own techniques of wine tasting.

In 2000, a book entitled “La Piacevolezza del Vino” (the Pleasure of wine), set a goal to talk about the technique of wine tasting readers unfamiliar with the world of wine. In the same year, Maroni runs the portal SensOnline, bringing together more than 150,000 pages of information about wine and winemaking.

In March 2001, Luke issues in the light of the first edition of “Guida dei Vini del Mondo”. In the same month, he begins writing a column in the weekly newspaper “Il Mondo”, and in November the publishing house Sperling & Kupfer publishes a new edition of “La Piacevolezza del Vino”. During the year, Luka gathers rich crop of awards for its part in the life of Enola and gastronomy companies.

In 2003, Mr. Maroni, at the request of the Cabinet of Ministers writes a section about wine and food for publications under the title “Le Eccellenze Italiane” (“Italian perfection”). In September of the same year with the participation of publishing houses, Sperling & Kupfer and Mondadori he published the book “Piacevolezza Dell’olio” (Pleasure oil), which describes innovative methods for the assessment of the quality of olive oil is fresh-pressed. Also, in 2003, Maroni starts to write for his column in the weekly magazine “Panorama”. In addition, he was invited to participate in the program “Decanter” on Radio2 RAI as an expert.

In September 2004 he published his book “Conoscere il Vino” (Studying wine) for the publishing house Fabbri Editori, in which he tells everything he knows about wine production and methods of its storage. In October, a print out of his “Guide ai Vini Italiani più piacevoli, convenienti e reperibili” (Guide to the high-quality, inexpensive and always available Italian wines) for the weekly Oggi.

In 2005 Luke 5 volume Tome about wine for the daily newspaper Corriere della Sera, which was sold together with the newspaper and has sold 1 million copies, setting a record for all activities dedicated to wine.

In 2008 Luca Maroni went to new York, where he presented the public the “Guide of the Top 500 Italian Wines” (Guide 500 of the best Italian wines) during a demonstration tasting at the theater named Helen mills.
